Question 1

How do I know my child is safe with the driver?

Accepted Answer

Every driver on SkoolRun is vetted by our team before they get a Verified badge: we check their South African ID, driver’s licence, PrDP and police clearance, and we can also hold their child-protection register clearance and references. Businesses can be verified too, when we have checked their registration and operating licence. Every partner vehicle carries a SkoolRun sticker with its own ID and QR code, so at the school gate you can scan it and confirm the business, the vehicle and its number plate. Owners also track each vehicle’s safety gear, like the fire extinguisher, first-aid kit and seatbelts, and are reminded before anything expires.

Question 2

Can I see where my child is during the school run?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When the driver starts the run you are told, and when the driver is on the way to your child’s stop a live map shows the bus, an arrival time and the route. You get a message when the driver is nearby, another when the driver arrives and your child must come out, and one more when your child is picked up and dropped off. The map only appears for your child’s stop, never while the driver is still collecting other children, so no one can follow a route they do not need to. Afterwards you can open a run report for the day.

Question 3

What does SkoolRun cost?

Accepted Answer

It is free for parents, learners and drivers. Transport owners pay R20 a month, or R192 a year (about R16 a month, which saves R48). There is no set-up fee and no contract. Owners pay a once-off R50 hire fee only when they hire a driver they found through SkoolRun; posting a job and adding drivers they already work with costs nothing. Invoices are sent to parents by SMS and email with a link to pay, and payment by card online is coming soon.

Question 4

How do I get started?

Accepted Answer

Pick your role and create an account with your mobile number and a code we send you, or with an email and password. Parents then add their child and enter the vehicle code from their transport owner, or tap the owner’s invite link, which links the child straight to the right vehicle. Drivers upload their documents for vetting, then join a team with a driver code or apply for jobs. Owners create their business, add vehicles and routes, and invite every parent with one link. Most people are set up in a few minutes.

Question 5

What if plans change, or something goes wrong?

Accepted Answer

Tap “Not going today” and the driver is told straight away, and the child drops off the stops. If you change your mind you can undo it for 10 minutes after the driver starts the run, and we remind you at 5 and 3 minutes left. Drivers cannot finish a run while a child is still on board, so a child can never be forgotten, and they can mark “Not here” if a child is missing.
