Privacy policy

Last updated 21 September 2026

SkoolRun connects parents, learners, drivers and transport businesses for scholar transport in South Africa. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who sees it, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Who we are

SkoolRun is the responsible party for the information described here. You can contact us at support@skoolrun.co.za.

What we collect

  • Account details: your name, mobile number, email address and a password (or sign-in codes sent by SMS or email).
  • Learners: a parent or guardian adds their child’s name, school, grade and pick-up address. Learner accounts are created only through a link from the parent. We do not knowingly collect information from children who have not been added by a parent or guardian.
  • Location: while a driver has a school run open in the app, the phone shares its location so parents can see when the driver is close. It is not tracked outside a run.
  • Drivers: identity document, driver’s licence, PrDP, police clearance, medical certificate, CV, photo and references, which SkoolRun staff use to verify the driver.
  • Transport businesses: business name, registration and licence details, banking details for invoices, and adverts.
  • Payments and invoices: invoice amounts, payment status and references. We do not store card numbers; card payments are handled by our payment provider.
  • Messages and activity: notifications, trip notices, enquiries, ratings, and technical logs such as device type, app version and push notification token.

Why we use it

  • To run the service: routes, run alerts, invoices, hiring and verification.
  • To keep children safe: verifying drivers and businesses and showing parents where the driver is during a run.
  • To contact you: one-time sign-in codes, invitations, reminders and important notices by SMS, email and in-app notifications.
  • To meet legal duties, prevent fraud and improve the service.

Who sees your information

  • Parents see their own children’s trips, their driver’s first name and vehicle, and the driver’s location during a run.
  • Drivers see the names, stops and notices of the learners on their route. Home addresses are shown only as needed for the run.
  • Transport businesses see the learners and parents on their routes, and the contact details of parents who send them an enquiry.
  • Businesses hiring drivers see a driver’s verification status, experience, CV and photo when the driver applies or is invited. Contact details are shared only after the driver accepts an interview.
  • Service providers that help us operate: Google (maps, addresses and driving times), our SMS provider, email delivery, push notification services and our hosting provider. They may only use the information to provide their service to us.

We do not sell personal information.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days. We keep invoices and payment records for as long as tax and company law require, without your name and contact details where possible.

Security

Information is sent over encrypted connections, documents are stored privately and only visible to the people described above, and staff access is limited and logged.

Your rights

You may ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, and you may object to how we use it. To delete your account, use Account → Delete my account in the app, or request deletion on the website. For anything else email support@skoolrun.co.za. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and show the date at the top.
