How can we help?
Answers for parents, drivers and transport businesses. Search, or pick who you are.
Getting started
Sign up, sign in and find your way around.
What is SkoolRun?
SkoolRun connects parents, drivers and transport businesses so every school run is safer and simpler. Parents see how today’s runs are going, drivers have a clear run screen, and businesses manage routes, drivers, learners and invoices from one place.
It works on the website and in the iPhone and Android apps, with the same account.
How do I create an account?
Choose what you are (parent, driver or transport business), enter your name and mobile number, and confirm the 6-digit code we send you by SMS. That is it.
- Open skoolrun.co.za/signup or the app.
- Pick parent, driver or transport business.
- Enter your mobile number and the code we SMS you.
- Follow the short set-up. You can finish the rest later.
I did not get my SMS code
Wait a minute, then tap “Send again”. Check the number is a South African mobile number and that your phone has signal. If you gave an email address we can send the code there instead.
Still nothing? Message our WhatsApp assistant and we will help you sign in.
How do I sign in?
Use your email and password, or your mobile number with a one-time code. In the app you can also unlock with your fingerprint or face once you have turned it on.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in page tap “Forgot your password?”, enter your email or mobile number, and follow the code we send you. Or skip the password: choose “Sign in with a one-time code”.
Where do I get the app?
Search “SkoolRun” in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Sign in with the same details you use on the website.
Which account type should I choose?
Parent: you have a child who travels to school with a driver. Driver: you drive learners and want to be verified and find work. Transport business: you own the vehicles and routes, with or without drivers working for you.
If you own the business and also drive, choose transport business and switch on “I drive too” on the Drivers page.
For parents
Link your child, tell the driver things once, and stay in the loop.
How do I link my child to a driver?
Ask your driver or transport business for their invite link or the vehicle code. Open the link, or enter the code on your child’s card, and your child is linked to the right vehicle.
- Open Learners and tap “Add a learner” (or open the invite link you were sent).
- Enter your child’s name and school.
- Tap “Link vehicle” and enter the vehicle code, or just use the invite link.
How do I tell the driver my child is not going today?
On your Home page tap “Not going today” (or “Not going tomorrow”) under your child’s name. The driver is told straight away and does not wait for your child.
For several days, running late or a different pick-up, use “Tell driver”.
How do I set my child’s extra-murals?
Open Extra-murals, tap “Add an activity”, and choose the day, the time and who collects. The driver is told when to collect on each day, and you get a reminder beforehand. Double-click a day on the calendar to add something, or an activity to change it.
How do I see where the run is?
Your Home page and Trips page show each child’s morning and afternoon run: not started, on the way, picked up, dropped off. You also get a message when the driver is on the way to your child’s stop and when your child is picked up or dropped off.
Where can I see my child’s past runs?
Open Run report to see how your child’s runs went over time: how many runs, on-time pick-ups and drop-offs, and any no-shows. The Trips page also keeps the last two weeks.
I am not getting notifications
In the app, tap “Turn on” when it asks about notifications, and check that SkoolRun is allowed to send notifications in your phone’s settings. Messages also arrive by SMS where you gave a mobile number.
How do I find a transport business near me?
Open Businesses, tap “Use my location” or type your suburb or your child’s school, and tap Find. Businesses with a green “Verified” badge have been checked by SkoolRun. Tap one to see details and send an enquiry.
My child’s driver is not on SkoolRun. Can I invite them?
Yes. From your Home page, tap “Invite your driver”. We send them an invitation with a link to join. When they join, you can link your child.
How do I pay my transport business?
Your business sends invoices in the app. Each invoice shows the business’s real bank details, so pay into that account only. Never pay into different bank details sent to you by WhatsApp or SMS.
Read more under Safety.
My transport business sent me an agreement. How do I sign it?
Open the link in the message or email, or tap “Read and sign” on your Home page. Read the agreement, type your full name, tick the box and tap Sign. You and the business both get a copy. Nothing is paid by signing.
If something in it is wrong, do not sign. Ask the business to correct it and send it again.
How do I rate or give feedback about my driver?
Open Trips and find “Your driver”. Tap Rate, say thank you, or raise a concern. Ratings help other parents, and concerns go to the business.
Can another parent or guardian also see my child’s runs?
Yes. On your child’s card tap “Add a guardian” and share the code. Guardians can see the child’s runs and tell the driver about changes.
For drivers
Join a team, get verified and run your day.
How do I join a transport business’s team?
Ask the owner for your driver code. On your Home page tap “Join a team with a code”, enter it, and you appear on the owner’s Drivers page. You can then be assigned to their routes.
How do I get verified?
Upload your documents: ID, driver’s licence, PrDP and police clearance. SkoolRun checks them and you get the green “verified” badge. Owners and parents see it, and verified drivers are easier to hire. Your ID scan is read on your own phone and is not kept by SkoolRun.
- Open Account and then My documents.
- Take a clear photo of each document.
- Wait for the review. We will tell you if anything is missing and why.
How does the run screen work?
Open Today and tap “Start morning run” (or afternoon). For each learner tap Picked up, Not here or Dropped off. Parents are told automatically. If a parent said their child is not going, you will see it and the stop is skipped.
Where do I see extra-murals?
Extra-murals show on your run screen on the day, with the time to collect and who collects. If the parent collects, the child is skipped.
How do I find work?
Open Jobs to see posted jobs from transport businesses and apply with one tap. A verified profile with your documents gives you the best chance. Businesses may invite you to interview by video call, phone or in person.
How do ratings work?
Parents can rate their driver, say thank you or raise a concern from their Trips page. Your score builds up as you finish runs on time and treat learners and parents well. Owners and parents can see your rating, so a good score helps you keep work and find new jobs.
You can see your rating and your last 30 days on the My routes page.
What if a learner is not at the stop?
Tap “Not here”. The parent is told. Wait for the time your business has agreed, then carry on with your run.
For transport businesses
List your business, get verified and bring your parents on board.
How do I list my transport business?
Sign up as a transport business and add your business details. You can also message our WhatsApp assistant on 068 738 0330 and answer three quick questions to be listed in about a minute. Parents at your schools can then find you.
How do I get the verified badge?
Open “Verify my business”. It is one screen and takes about a minute: a photo of your ID, a selfie holding it, proof of address, a photo of your operating licence (we read the expiry date for you), your association and your vehicle sticker number. Each one ticks itself and it is sent as soon as the last one is in. You can also do it on WhatsApp: send VERIFY to 068 738 0330. SkoolRun checks it and tells you if anything is missing. Verified businesses are shown to parents first.
What is the vehicle sticker number?
It is the number on the sticker of your operating licence or permit for the vehicle. We need it to confirm the vehicle is licensed to carry learners. You can find it on the licence disc or permit document.
How do I add vehicles?
Open Fleet, tap Add vehicle and enter the registration number, seats and licence disc and roadworthy dates. We remind you before they expire. You can also record safety checks such as the fire extinguisher and first-aid kit.
How do I set up a route?
Open Routes and tap New route. Add the school, the stops and the times for the morning and afternoon, and assign a driver and vehicle. “Best route” puts the stops in the quickest order using real driving times.
How do I invite parents?
Open Learners and tap “Get my invite link”. Share it in your parents’ WhatsApp group. You can also invite from your phone’s contacts or invite one parent. When a parent joins you are told, and their child is linked to the right vehicle.
How do I get parents to sign an agreement?
Open Agreements, check your terms (monthly fee, due date, notice period) and save them. Tap “Send to” everyone, or send to one parent at a time. Each parent reads and signs on their phone, and you can send the link on WhatsApp too. You see who has signed and can open each signed copy. The standard wording is a template: have your lawyer read a sample first.
How do I get an endorsement letter from a school?
Open School letters. For each school you service, tap “Ask for a letter”. SkoolRun emails the school a link where the principal or governing body representative sees who is asking, then endorses or declines. You are told when they answer, and the letter is kept with who gave it and when. If a school gives you a paper letter instead, tap “Add a paper letter” and upload a photo or PDF.
If a school has asked not to be contacted by SkoolRun, we will not email it. Ask them yourself and add the letter.
What is the Licence-ready screen?
Licence-ready puts the papers an operating-licence application or an inspection asks for in one place: your verification and sticker number, each vehicle’s licence disc, roadworthy certificate and safety gear, each driver’s licence, PrDP and police clearance, your signed parent agreements and your school endorsement letters. Each line is marked in order, expiring soon, expired or needed, with a Fix button. SkoolRun keeps your papers together; the licensing office decides whether you are approved, and rules differ by province.
My association has to confirm that I am a member. How?
If you named an association in your verification, SkoolRun asks the association to confirm you on WhatsApp. Its secretary opens a link, SkoolRun’s assistant checks they speak for the association, and they answer “Is this operator a member?” with one tap, or send a list of member numbers. When they confirm you, you are told and it shows in your Licence-ready file. Nobody is messaged because of a member list.
Nothing happens until your association acts. If you want to speed it up, ask your secretary to message the SkoolRun assistant on 068 738 0330 with the link SkoolRun sent them, or ask us to send it.
How do I add my drivers?
Open Drivers and tap “Invite a driver” (or choose from your contacts). Each driver gets a code to join your team. If you drive yourself, switch on “I drive too”.
How do invoices and payments work?
Add your bank details in Settings, then send invoices to parents from the app. Parents pay by EFT or cash, and you mark payments as received so you can see who is behind. Parents see your real bank details on each invoice.
How do I advertise my business?
Open Advertise to publish your advert on SkoolRun’s website, add the schools you service and the areas you collect from, and get ready-made banners to share on WhatsApp and Facebook.
How do I hire a driver?
Open Hiring to post a job, review verified drivers who applied, and invite them to interview by video call, phone or in person. Always check that a driver is verified before they drive learners.
How do I tell all my parents something?
Open Announce, write your notice and choose who should get it. Parents see it in the app.
Safety and privacy
How we keep learners, drivers and your information safe.
A transport business asked my school to endorse it. What is this?
A transport business that carries learners from your school listed the school on SkoolRun and asked for an endorsement letter, which operators need for their licence. The email has a link where you see who is asking, including their vehicles and whether SkoolRun has checked them, then endorse or decline. No account is needed and nothing is paid. Endorsing means the school knows of this operator and accepts it carrying its learners; it does not make the school responsible for the operator. If you are not the right person, pass the link to the principal or governing body, or ignore it.
How are drivers checked?
Drivers who ask to be verified upload their ID, driver’s licence, PrDP and police clearance. SkoolRun reviews them, and drivers are told what to fix if anything is missing. Look for the green verified badge.
How do I avoid scams?
SkoolRun never asks for your password, login code or PIN, and never tells you to pay into a different bank account. A login code is only for signing in yourself. Check bank details and phone numbers on our Stay safe page before you pay.
What happens to my information?
We only use your information to run the service. We do not sell it. Read our privacy policy for what we keep and why.
Does SkoolRun read my phone contacts?
Only if you choose to invite from contacts. You tick the people you want to invite and only those people are sent to SkoolRun. The rest of your address book never leaves your phone.
Your account and the app
Change your details, turn things on and off, or leave.
How do I change my name, email or number?
Open Account, change your details and save. A new mobile number is confirmed with an SMS code.
How do I use my fingerprint or face to sign in?
In the phone app, open Settings, tick “Use fingerprint or face to open SkoolRun” and confirm your password. Untick it any time, for example if you share the phone.
How do I see what is new in the app?
Tap the sparkle at the top of the app to see the latest features and changes. A small dot means there is something you have not seen. Updating the app from the App Store or Google Play makes sure you have everything.
How do I delete my account?
Open Account and choose “Delete my account”, or use the delete page on our website. We confirm it by SMS or email.
How do I stop SkoolRun emails or SMS?
Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of our tip emails, or reply STOP to a tip SMS. You will still get important messages about your account and your child’s runs.
